Stupid Injury!

I am struggling with my injury today.  For one, it is so beautiful here and in my opinion, prefect running weather.  Secondly, I feel good and feel like I could run.  But here is the thing,  yesterday, I couldn't stand straight until the early afternoon.  Why is that?  How could I feel so bad yesterday and so good today?

This has me baffled and I will talk to the therapist about it tomorrow.  Am I doing something differently on those days that I feel so bad?  I don't think so but who knows.

I was hoping to have a solid 5 mile base under my belt before I got into serious half marathon training.  Now I am feeling nervous and afraid I won't have enough time.  This is no small race that I am planning on doing either.  It is the Nike Women's Marathon and I am doing it with Team In Training in San Francisco!   There is a lot of things that come with this race.  Training, fund raising and a trip across the country.  I need to be certain I can do this.  It is a huge commitment not just for me, but for my family.

Ok, so 6 to 8 weeks of PT brings me to the end of April/middle of May.  Best case is I can run again in April, worse May.  The half is October 14.  What are your thoughts?  Can I do this if all goes well?

Thank you, friends!

Run strong, think big!

  1. Plenty of time! Hang in there and I'll pray for April ;) My first half I ended up with shin splints and had to stop for 2 weeks. When I started again I used the runner's magazine 10 week half program. I had to start on week 8!

  2. Sorry you're feeling so down - it's understandable, though - so frustrating to not be able to run when you feel like you could. I think you'll still be ok with training for the marathon. Most plans are 16 weeks long, so you should have time. Hope PT is going well, and hopefully you'll be back to running next month!

  3. It's so hard to stay positive when injured, hang in there! I definitely think you can still do it... 4 months should be plenty of time. I wouldn't set a time goal for yourself, but you should absolutely be able to finish it and run the whole thing! Hope you'll be running by April!!

    1. Thanks Laura! Yeah, I agree, no time goal. Thinking this will set me up for a really good PR for half number two. LOL

    1. Thanks Julia! I do need to calm down a little and focus. Since most of the responses have been positive, I am feeling better about how much time I will have.

  5. You have plenty of time. Don't stress. The swag at the Nike women's race is awesome I hear, and the Team in Training experience is amazing! So glad you are doing it:)

    1. I heard that about the sway too. Kinda excited about it. I am more nervous about fund raising than I am about the training but I was asked to do this from a friend who lost her daughter to leukemia and we will be running on what would of been her 16th birthday weekend. That alone makes it all worth while.

  6. Should be some time! Take care! I am fighting a weird injury myself. Dr. said today she thinks ortho and PT for me, as well. Toe/foot thing is feelin' better, for now. But i am afraid it will start over again? Need to figure it out. But,I am like you and hate not being out there! I have five half marathons this yr!Stay positive!

    1. Barb, listen to the PT and ortho. If they say now running then don't do it. Take care of yourself and you will come out of this better than when you started. I know you and you never give yourself a break. Hang in there and do what the doc says!

  7. I agree, you have plenty of time! There are good days and bad days with an injury, and hopefully your pain and immobility is merely a result of one of those bad days. Just like every bad run is followed by a great one, each bad day just leads to better ones. :)

    1. Thanks Hot Mama! Yes, I have to remember that. The PT said it's nothing I am doing, so I am just hoping for more good days as we continue on.
