(Biking) While Mommy

I came up with the name Running While Mommy because I had realized that I loved running and needed to find the time to fit it in, while still taking care of my family.  It is so easy to put yourself last and that is where the challenge came in.  Today, because I still can't run, I biked for 12 miles and then walked a little.

I hope that you can read between the lines and put yourself in the title no matter what it is you do or who you are.  It is my goal to have all types of people to follow my blog and FB page.  This is what I would of loved to call this blog, but it was just too long.
Running, biking, swimming, rock climbing, sky diving, walking, skiing, diving, hula hooping, while, Mommy, daddy, grandparents, teacher, doctor, son of a preacher man.  You get the picture, right?  What name would you give yourself?

I have said before that it was crazy that most of my encouragement came from strangers on-line.  I thought that was great. There are so many of us who are just trying to get it done while still staying happy.  I hope when you read my blog you feel encouraged to do what makes you smile.  A few of you have shared those things with me and I love that.  Keep your stories coming!  It is what keeps me going and I hope you too.

My back is feeling really good.  Today is the first day I can say that.  Keeping my fingers crossed that this is the beginning of me getting better.  The bike ride was at the gym so it was a little boring, but I finally got my iPod up and running and had some great tunes to listen to.   Thanks husband!  I enjoyed my workout today.  I have not done anything except PT in more than a week.  I was feeling really bad about that.  I plan to hit the gym everyday this week, not matter what time I have to do it.  Easier said than done, but I know I can do it!

One last thing I would like to call your attention to.  I know you have all been following the disappearance of Sherry Arnold.  Her cousin Beth from Shut up and Run has put together a Virtual Run to honor her.  I am going to walk or bike with some friends and hope you can do it too.  I would love to see pics or hear stories if you do.  Remember you don't have to run to participate.

Run strong, think big!

  2. Great job on the bike! Always good to have some cross training. I think it's great you do so many fun activities. I hope your back feels better soon. I had an issue with my back and hip and found it was do to muscle imbalance so I'm adding biking and swimming to my workout schedule.

I want to do a run, walk or bike for Sherry; it's the day before my 5k so probably something easy. I want to get a couple people on board to do it with me as well. I'll try to take some pics but sometimes I forget my camera. Being a mom definitely has not helped in the memory area.

  3. Great job biking! It always helps to find alternative ways to workout when you're not able to run, to stay sane! I'm doing Sherry's run too.

    1. Yes, it is the staying sane that motivates me. I have one friend so far doing Sherry's run with me. I am hoping to have more.

  5. I finally ran today! It has been a few months since I've run and although I pushed myself to run a 5K without walking I had to talk myself through it before a mile! I hate that it takes so long to get to a running level that you feel good about but takes no time for you to lose where you were if you stop! Must keep where I know I can be in my mind to get myself out there again! Nicole I think your blog might do the trick. Thanks for the inspiration, Jackie

  6. Jackie A, thank you so much. I agree, it is hard to get back to where you left off. I am curious to see how far I can go when I start running again. Thanks for reading. You being inspired is what keeps me inspired! Keep me updated on how your running is going.

  7. Hi Nicole, I was on the Sherry Arnold site and saw you'll be running on the 11th in RI. I would love to run with you if you want to meet up. I live in South County and usually run hilly 5-10 milers (training for Hyannis half end of the month) at about a 9:30 pace. Let me know if you want to run some time, or do the virtual run together! Best, Anj anjuanja@yahoo.com

  8. Judith, I still can't run, hopefully be back in action by March. But feel free to still meet me at the beach on the 11th. I have two other friends joining me, I think one might run. I will probably just walk, possibly bike.
Great job on the training! Is this your first half? My first half will be this October. I live close to you it sounds like, so when I am back in action, I would love to run with you. You are faster than me but I don't mind being behind. Thanks for reading and hope to meet you soon.
